This cafe draws a steady flow of families, cycling enthusiasts, and locals looking for a casual break in a lively outdoor setting.

The atmosphere is relaxed and practical, with both indoor seating that offers a cozy, unpretentious vibe and an outdoor area that’s hard to beat on a sunny day—especially for those wanting to soak up fresh air after time on the trails. The outdoor seating feels well integrated into the natural surroundings of Willesley Woodside, making it a favourite spot to pause and watch other cyclists or families enjoying the play areas and woodland paths.

Grounds Café serves up a straightforward, reliable menu that suits the needs of active visitors. Breakfast options include hearty staples like bacon or sausage sandwiches and porridge, while lunchtime bites focus on a range of sandwiches and baguettes featuring familiar fillings such as ham, cheddar, and tuna mayo. There’s attentiveness to dietary preferences too, with vegan sausage sandwiches and gluten-free cakes available, which widens the appeal for visitors with specific needs.

The drinks menu caters well to coffee lovers, with lattes and affogatos standing out alongside some less typical choices like horchata and smoothies—refreshing options after a ride or walk. Sweet options like Eton Mess cake, Victoria sponge, and homemade gelato or ice cream provide just the right end note and a reason to linger a little longer.

Parking comes with a small charge, something to keep in mind for those driving in, but there’s ample space and easy access to the cycle paths and lakeside. Service tends to be friendly and efficient, reflecting the steady flow of families, cyclists, and dog walkers who make this their routine stop. There’s also a bike shop counter nearby, offering quick fixes and spares, underscoring how this place is designed for visitors who come prepared for an active day out.

Overall, Grounds Café Hicks Lodge works best for those looking for a welcoming, down-to-earth spot to recharge mid-activity. It’s ideal for family outings, casual meet-ups after cycling sessions, or a low-key day visitor experience that brings together nature, exercise, and straightforward, satisfying food without fuss.

Amazing place. Miles of awesome cycling and a great cafe in the middle. Coffee and food is ok, service always friendly, indoor cafe great ambience, outdoor seating unparalleled. I don't want to big it up too much as I regard it as my personal paradise, but truth be told it is a FANTASTIC place.

Excellent location for cycling with large cycle tracks for different levels of experience, ideal for a gentle walk around the lake area, great cafe with a good selection of food etc also there's a kids play area. One thing to note is that you will have to pay for parking if you come by car.

Great stop off on journey if you're round these parts. Wooden playground. Excellent coffee, baguettes and ice cream. Better than a service station by far. Good for bikes if you live locally
